Telehealth FAQs: Q: What is Telehealth anyway? A:Telehealth is videoconferencing that you can do securely from the comfort of your own home/automobile/work thru a computer with a webcam or smartphone (by using a web-link or the "Telehealth by SimplePractice" app).
Q: Can I do Telehealth by just talking on the phone, via email, via social media, or by texting? A: No, telehealth is not actually "telehealth" when it is only done thru a synchronized person-to-person live conversation where we can see each others' actually faces.
Q: Will my EAP company or Insurance company pay for psychotherapy done via Telehealth? A: The best way to confirm that Telehealth is covered by your EAP/Insurance company is for YOU to call them and ask them directly what is covered by Your Plan. They will have to abide by whatever they tell you on the telephone.
Q: What Telehealth platform do you use? A: "Telehealth by SimplePractice". "Telehealth by Simple Practice" is a HIPPA- Compliant and encrypted telehealth videoconferencing service which is Erika Coppen, LPC-MHSP/ Thrive Mental Health Services has paid for you to use at no additional cost to you.
Q: What will I need to do psychotherapy via Telehealth? A: On the day of your Telehealth videoconferencing session, you will need a Place where you can talk Privately without interruptions. Then you can use either: a computer/iPad/tablet with: + a Webcam, + a strong wifi/ internet connection + plugged-in OR with (ideally) a full battery + and access to your email account* OR A smartphone with: + a strong cellphone signal or wifi/ internet connection + a webcam, + plugged-in OR with (ideally) a full battery, + access to your email account* + and the "Telehealth by SimplePractice" app installed on it.
*You will be receiving an Email with a Single Use Web-link for each session. ** Please note, that many folks find that it more comfortable physically to NOT have to hold their phones with their hands for the whole telehealth session) so if possible to use a computer/iPad/tablet with a strong internet connection, that can be helpful.
*** Many clients find it helpful to wear headphones or earbuds/airpods to help prevent others from overhearing what the Therapist says, if that helps you to feel more confident that you won't be overheard, then you are encouraged to wear those.
Q: Where can I be when I am in a Telehealth Session? A: Where do you want to be? As long as it is Private (where you won't be interrupted or easily overheard), you have a good internet/cellphone signal, and you are currently in the State of Tennessee* (per current State Licensure Rules unless that changes). My clients enjoy the convenience and flexibility of doing their Telehealth sessions from all kinds of places: + their Bedroom, + their Car, + their Home Office, + their Deck, + in an empty Meeting Room at Work, + in their Office at Work, + a quiet space on school grounds after school, etc.
Q: Wow! This sounds pretty darn cool! How do I get started doing Telehealth anyway? A: Very Easily. All you will need to do to get started: (1) Make sure that you know that it will indeed be paid for (see above),
(2) When going into the Secure Client Portal to request your Appointments, just select "Video Office" as your Location (the default is set to the physical office "106 Mission Court, Ste 102B"). If you forget, your therapist can easily change that for you. :-)
(3) and You have Read & Signed the Telehealth Consent Form There are 2 easy ways to do that: Via your Secure Client Portal Account https://thrivemhs.clientsecure.me/client_portal/client_accesses/sign_in: "Click to Sign Telehealth Consent form" (see the Documents TAB) OR you can ask for it via Email and you can Read and use Adobe PDF Reader's Fill & Sign tool, then email it back. Easy peasy!
